Meet Baby Girl! She and her human were recently picked up by the Compassionate Caravan. They are a bonded pair, having spent the last 2 1/2 years together and were not interested in separating in order to acquire emergency shelter.

Ask yourself, would you want to separate from your beloved four-legged companion if you were experiencing homelessness?

In Lexington, there are no shelters where pets (non-service animals) are welcome. Our friends at Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control offer emergency boarding and provide outstanding care to pets in need. They have helped many of our displaced guests with a safe and secure place for their pets to be, offered free or reduced access to preventatives, vaccinations, licenses and even spay/neuter. But sometimes bonded pairs are just unwilling to separate. And while this means subjecting themselves to dangerous weather, their sense of security and emotional well-being remains intact.

In order to help fill in this gap in services, we’re introducing the Compassionate Pet Care fund! A fund that will be used when the weather is life-threatening to provide temporary hotel stays to those experiencing homelessness with their pet while a more long-term plan is developed. Donations to this fund are tax deductible and will be used exclusively for pet related care (shelter, food, vaccinations and other veterinary care). Donations can be made on our website www.catholicactioncenter.net via PayPal or by check made out to the Catholic Action Center and mailed to P.O. Box 324, Lexington KY 40588. Be sure to note “Pet Care”.
